Dr. Obunai serves as the Chairman of Sakakibara Koseikai, one of the leading medical groups representing Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Under his leadership, the organization is dedicated to providing top-quality healthcare to support the well-being of many individuals. In addition to his role as Chairman, Dr. Obunai holds the position of Chief of the Department of Cardiology at Tokyo Bay Medical Center in Chiba, Japan. His distinguished career includes two years of dedicated service as an attending physician at the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University, in New York City.
Dr. Obunai is a recognized expert in the field of Interventional Cardiology, with specialized interests in advanced coronary interventions. His expertise extends to Complex Higher-risk Indicated Patients (CHIP), chronic total occlusions (CTO), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair using MitraClip®, and the closure of structural heart defects such as atrial septal defect (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and patent foramen ovale (PFO).
Dr. Obunai received his medical degree from Niigata University School of Medicine in Japan. He further honed his clinical skills through postgraduate medical training in the United States, completing his residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He subsequently pursued specialized training in Interventional Cardiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University.
Dr. Obunai is certified in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine by the professional boards in both Japan and the United States. A prolific contributor to the field of cardiology, he has authored numerous abstracts and peer-reviewed articles, further solidifying his reputation as a leading voice in medical research and innovation.
